A Past Student, Patrick
Jeanette is one of the most kind hearted and non-judgmental persons I have met. The biggest AHA moment in Sober Curiosity Lab is that I am NOT somehow broken or defective.

It’s time to stop believing white-knuckling is the key to a fulfilling alcohol-free life
You didn’t get stuck in the drinking cycle because you’re weak or broken—
You were trying to be happy, the best way you knew how.
Mainstream recovery told us to:
- Call ourselves alcoholics
- Admit we’re powerless
- Just quit
While these approaches have helped some people, they often leave high-functioning drinkers stuck in what I call the dependency loop.

What keeps us stuck isn’t alcohol itself, it's...

the NEED
- To relax.
- To take the edge off after a long day.
- To have something—anything—to look forward to.
- It’s the weight of carrying everything for everyone.
- The heaviness of knowing the only person you can count on… is you.

the BELIEF
- That alcohol helps you keep going.
- That it’s the reward for holding it all together.
- That when there’s no one else to lean on, at least there’s wine.

the ACTION
- You’ve repeated so many times.
- they start to feel more like autopilot than a choice.

Who is Jeanette Hu,
and why did I walk away from AA?
Hey there, I’m Jeanette—the founder of Sober Curiosity, a former daily drinker and therapist-turned-sobriety guide.
I help growth-minded individuals break free from old drinking cycles and build a fulfilling alcohol-free life—without 12-steps, shame-based labels, or white-knuckling your way through.
Here’s the truth:
I’ve only been to AA once.
And it wasn’t bad, actually.
It was held in a brightly lit activity room on my college campus. The group leader was warm and welcoming. There were other students my age. There were even homemade chocolate chip cookies. Honestly—nothing to complain about.
So why didn’t I go back?
Because I couldn’t reconcile with the label “alcoholic”—or the idea that I was powerless.
Yes, I can admit: I loved alcohol a little too much.
But no—I won’t reduce myself to a label that says that’s all I am.
Yes, I struggled with control. Sometimes I even found it hard to get alcohol out of my head.
But no—I don’t believe that means I’m powerless.
That’s why I went looking for another path to freedom—
one that’s a little less conventional, and maybe even a little controversial.
And when I couldn’t find it, I built it.

You Can Reclaim Joy, Freedom, and A Deep Sense of Fulfillment Without Alcohol
(Even If You’ve Tried and Failed Before)
Instead of walking into a second AA meeting,
I walked into graduate school.
Earned my Master’s in Clinical Psychology.
Specialized in addiction recovery.
And I created a new approach— one rooted in compassion and empowerment— for folks like us: growth-minded, high-functioning drinkers who want a different way.
I call it: The Four Pillar Sobriety System™

Each pillar counters one factor in the dependency loop:
Pillar 1 — Value Discovery: to reconnect with what truly gives you satisfaction and fulfillment
Pillar 2 — Belief Upgrade: to rewrite the story you’ve been told about alcohol and about yourself.
Pillar 3 — Skill Building: to replace alcohol with empowering tools to meet the needs that alcohol once helped you meet in life.
Pillar 4 — Mindset Shifting: to cultivate a mindset that allows you to turn any setback or challenge into stepping stones.
Are you ready for a transformational journey to outgrow alcohol and come home to joy, freedom, and the version of you that doesn’t need to numb?
Here is how we start

Step One
Clarity Call — 30 Minutes
Normal Rate: $100
Free Now for a Limited Number of Spots
A laser-focused conversation to help you get clear on where you are in your journey—and what you truly want in changing your relationship with alcohol.
We’ll look beyond fear and shame, and begin tapping into your unique desires and deeper vision: the possibility that excites you and pulls you forward.

Step Two:
Discovery Package — 3 Sessions
$200 / Session
Phase I: Rediscover
Three in-depth private coaching sessions designed to explore the root of your drinking patterns and spark meaningful inner shifts.
We’ll dive into your history, your current relationship with alcohol, and your overall well-being—to get a holistic picture of where you are and where you want to go.
These sessions lay the groundwork for everything to come. I’ll also share my impressions and outline a potential path forward, with plenty of room for it to evolve as you do.
By the end of session three, we’ll have a solid sense of fit—and make a mutual decision about whether to move into ongoing support.

Stage Three:
Ongoing 1:1 Private Coaching
$180 / Session
If we’re a good fit, you’ll have the option to continue with high-touch, customized support. Together, we’ll discuss the plan, session frequency, and pacing that fits your needs.

Oh, hey there!
I'm Jeanette, your non-AA Sober Curiosity mentor
Jeanette is the founder of Sober Curiosity — a former daily drinker and therapist-turned-sobriety guide who helps growth-minded folks break free from alcohol’s grip and go from white-knuckling it, feeling deprived, and missing the buzz to feeling free, confident, energized, and genuinely good about saying “No” to a drink.
Clients describe her as “one of the most kind-hearted and non-judgmental people they’ve ever met.” Her compassion-infused, empowerment-driven approach has been featured in The New York Times and regularly appears in Psychology Today.
Before finding her calling in the sober space, Jeanette once owned a tattoo shop in Beijing. These days, you’ll find her sipping tea with a good book in hand — and zero interest in hangovers.
