Alcohol’s Little Lies: Dydration
I felt like I could empty a river,
That was how thirsty I felt after cleaning out our storage all morning — my throat was on fire.
I pulled two half-liter bottles of water out of the 7-11 cooler, debating if I should grab a 3rd just in case.
But 2/3 liters in, I was done.
I’ve overestimated the size of my stomach.
But how come I used to be able to empty a dozen beers and still have room for more?
Here is what many people don’t know about alcohol: beer, or any alcoholic drink, dehydrates you.
They suck water out of your body on a cellular level.
Counterintuitive, right?
That cold beer supposed to quench your thirst actually left you more dehydrated after each gulp.
That is just one of the many lies alcohol tells.
And here is the brilliant part, as you become drier than the last gulp, you’d keep returning for the next.
So next time when you are thirsty after a long, hot summer day, think twice before you reach for the cold beer.
If hydration is what you are looking for, the liquid in the bottle is going to accomplish the opposite.
As a member of Sober Curiosity Society, you will uncover more of the big and small lies alcohol has made you believe in the upcoming month, stay tuned.
