Vol.3 The elephant, the sky, and your craving
Last Friday, I dropped a truth bomb about temptation:
đ It comes from our beliefs.
And thatâs good newsâand let me tell you why.
But first, can I tell you a quick story?
I used to be terrified of dogs.
Didnât matter how small or fluffyâif one appeared, my whole body would tense.
Iâd cross the street, freeze, or turn around. It wasnât a choiceâit was instinct.
Then one Christmas, I met my in-lawsâ new puppy.
Tiny. Wiggly. Followed me everywhere.
At first, the fear was still there.
But this little pup didnât bark or bite.
It didnât chase or growl.
It just wanted to be near me.
And slowly, over the week⌠something softened.
After that winter, something shifted.
I didnât just stay calm around dogsâsometimes, I even went up to pet them.
So what changed?
Sure, being around a safe dog helped.
But the real shift was in my belief.
I went from âDogs are dangerousâ to âNot all dogs are dangerous.â
And once my belief changed, everything else followed.
No magic. No hypnosis.
Just one new experience that cracked open a new lens.
Thatâs how belief works.
It feels like truth. But often, itâs just our brainâs best guess based on what weâve experienced.
We do this all the time:
âď¸ The sky is blue⌠until the pink sunset or the grey storm.
đ The blind men who swore an elephant was a rope, a wall, or a snakeâdepending on which part they touched.
đ§ Beliefs are made from fragments of reality. But theyâre not the full picture.
And when it comes to alcohol?
Same thing.
We believe alcohol helps us relax⌠or sleep⌠or have more fun.
And that belief is what fuels the craving.
But belief isnât the same as reality.
It feels realâbut that doesnât mean itâs true.
And if itâs not fully trueâŚ
That means itâs changeable.
Which is very good news.
