Vol. 53 3 Elements of Self-Compassion
So, what exactly is self-compassion?
Put simply, self-compassion is about treating yourself with the same kindness you would offer a dear friend or a little child.
But if you’ve spent years relating to yourself with harsh inner criticism — like many people have — the concept can feel foreign and hard to grasp.
Luckily, Kristin Neff, the founder of Mindfulness Self-Compassion, makes it easy by breaking it down into 3 core elements:
#1: Mindfulness
Noticing your thoughts and feelings without judging them or trying to fight them.
#2: Common Humanity
Recognizing that all humans are works in progress — and that our imperfections aren’t what separate us, but what connect us.
#3: Self-Kindness
Treating yourself with the same warmth you'd offer a friend or loved one when they’re struggling.
In our next email, I’ll show you a real-life example of how to use these three elements when you’re facing a hardship or challenge.
More soon,
Jeanette
